Lemongrass is our rejuvenating and flamboyant friend. Its benefits are numerous and invigorating. Let’s now venture into the many ways we can use this beautiful and exciting oil.
Remember to familiarize yourself with the safety aspects of each oil before trying any of these recipes!
1. Fresh Shower Gel For PerspirationÂ
Once profuse sweating kicks in, your body will produce odor – not the fresh kind. This lemongrass, pine, and vetiver essential oil combination will help to relieve body odor, keep you cool, and calm.
Add to a container:
- 7 drops of lemongrass
- 7 drops of scotch pine
- 1 drop of vetiver
Blend all the essential oils together. Add to the essential oil mixture 2 tablespoons of unperfumed/unscented shower gel. Mix the above ingredients well.
For best results, use your ‘lemongrass fresh shower gel’ at least once everyday to minimize sweating, stay clean, and keep odor at bay.
2. Foot Massage For Athlete’s Foot
Athlete’s foot isn’t only uncomfortable, but it does spread to other areas of the body and is infectious to others. This essential oil combination of lemongrass and tea tree make this blend special because of the antifungal activities.
The addition of lavender essential oil to the mixture helps to soothe the area and relieve discomfort.  It’ll also help to rejuvenate and heal the infected area.
- 3 drops of lemongrass essential oil
- 3 drops of tea tree essential oil
- 3 drops of lavender essential oil
Add to a container. After mixing your oils, add 2 tablespoons of neem oil to dilute.
Mix the solution to combine well and then transfer to a dark euro-dropper or similar bottle. After a nice shower, add a few drops of your ‘lemongrass foot massage’ blend to your feet. Gently massage the blend onto the skin and let it absorb. Use this foot massage blend twice daily, preferably after a bath.
The oil is best stored in a cool and dark space. It should keep for about 3 months.
3. Facial Sauna For Beautiful, Vibrant Skin
The antiseptic action of lemongrass and bergamot essential oils will work to cleanse your pores. This will control inflammation and redness.
On the other hand, the sedative effect of petitgrain oil will reduce stress and anxiety which can cause breakouts.
- 2 drops of bergamot
- 3 drops of lemongrass
- 1 drop or petitgrain essential oil
Add to a container. Mix the oils to combine. Add the essential oil combination to a bowl of hot water. Place your head a few inches above the container; add a tower for heat retention and lean forward to allow the heat to come in contact with your face.
Allow the heat to penetrate your facial pores for about 5 minutes. Take breaks if you must if the sauna becomes a bit unbearable.
After the recommended time has lapsed, use cool water to wash your face. Pat dry with a towel to complete the process. Do not wash your face immediately after your sauna treatment.
4. Massage Blend To Relieve And Soothe Pain
The soothing properties of lemongrass, black pepper, and plai essential oil will work together to ease muscle aches and encourage circulation.
- 5 drops of lemongrass essential oil
- 3 drops of black pepper essential oil
- 2 drops of plai essential oil
Add the above to a container and mix well to combine. To the essential oil blend, add 1 tablespoon of almond oil and 1 tablespoon of arnica macerated oil.
Transfer the contents of the previous step into a euro-dropper bottle. After showering, massage the blend into the affected area. Application can be made once daily.
Store the container in a cool and dark area. The blend should keep for about 3 months.
5. Temple Rub For Headaches And Migraines
The lemongrass and peppermint essential oil addition provide all the pain-relieving force, while rosemary and lavender essential oils are soothing and tranquilizing.
As headaches affect your mental focus, the rosemary and lavender essential oils will also work to improve clarity.
- 3 drops of lemongrass essential oil
- 2 drops of peppermint essential oil
- 5 drops of rosemary essential oil
- 2 drops of lavender essential oil
Blend, and add 2 tablespoons of almond oil. Mix together well, and pour the contents of the bowl into a bottle and seal with a cap. An alternative is to use a euro-dropper. Massage the oil in a circular motion into your temple to alleviate and soothe headaches.
The blend can be kept for up to 3 months.
6. The Sluggish Circulation Beater Blend
Poor circulation is nobody’s friend. The aim is to get you an essential oil blend that can encourage circulation and get blood flowing in the right places. This lemongrass essential oil blend with rosemary essential oil may help to provide some relief when used.
- 3 drops of lemongrass essential oil
- 3 drops of thyme essential oil
- 3 drops of black pepper essential oil
- 3 drops of rosemary essential oil
- 1 drop of clove essential oil
Combine in a container and add 2 tablespoons of almond oil to dilute your oil blend. Transfer the mixture into a bottle and shut tight with a cap. Massage the oil on areas where sluggish circulation occurs.
This blend should keep for about 3 months.
7. Nifty Indigestion Massage Comforter Blend
Indigestion inflames and irritates the walls of your stomach. This lemongrass essential oil recipe with a few added oils can be your nifty comforter in times of stomach distress.
- Add 3 drops of mandarin essential oil
- 2 drops of coriander essential oil
- 2 drops of cardamom essential oil
- 3 drops of lemongrass essential oil
Add to a bowl along with 2 tablespoons of almond oil and mix well to combine. Poor the mixture from the bowl into a dropper.
When administering, massage the solution into the abdomen and chest prior to getting dressed. Let it absorb before putting on your clothes.
This solution should be thrown out after 3 months of safe storage.
8. Stomach-Settling Bath Blend
The addition of dill and marjoram essential oils produce an antispasmodic and soothing effect to relieve flatulence and encourage digestion.
- 3 drops of lemongrass essential oil
- 3 drops of marjoram essential oil
- 3 drops of dill essential oil
- 3 drops of black pepper essential oil
Add to a bowl with 1 tablespoon of your favourite base oil (or whole milk). Mix well to combine.
Toss the blend into a warm bath and soak your discomfort away.
 9. Handy Mosquito Repellent
This repellent is a handy cohort to travel with. The insecticidal action of lemongrass and peppermint essential oils make the solution an effective dose to hit mosquitoes with.
The soothing properties of cedarwood and geranium essential oils will help to soothe the skin and prevent inflammation.
Obtain a 2-ounce spritzer bottle. You’ll disperse the contents of the repellent from this. To the bottle, add:
- 10 drops of lemongrass essential oil
- 5 drops of geranium essential oil
- 10 drops of cedarwood essential oil
- 5 drops of peppermint essential oil
Fill the spritzer bottle with water. You can choose to add a dispersant to the blend.  The contents of the spritzer bottle should be shaken well before administering to the body.
You can use this repellent on your legs, arms, clothing, hair, and other areas.
10. Flea Repellent Porch Spray
This lemongrass, citronella and lemon eucalyptus essential oil blend is a handy solution when dealing with fleas. These oils have natural insecticidal components that keep fleas at bay.
In a spritzer bottle, add:
- 10 drops of lemongrass essential oil
- 10 drops of citronella essential oil
- 10 drops of lemon eucalyptus essential oil
To your bottle of oil blend, add 1 ounce of vodka or pure grain alcohol as a substitute. Add a bit of water to the solution to ensure that you have more of the blend to go around.
Spray the blend on your porch to repel and kill fleas. You can also use it on your lawn but be careful. Lemongrass essential oil can be toxic to pets.
11. Skin Soothing Flea Buster Blend
Insect bites, especially from fleas, are irritable to the skin. This blend with a combination of palmarosa and lavender essential oil produce a soothing action that can be used to minimize skin irritability.
To a euro-dropper bottle, add:
- 6 drops of lemongrass essential oil
- 2 drops of cedarwood essential oil
- 2 drops of citronella essential oil
- 2 drops of lavender essential oil
- 3 drops of palmarosa essential oil
Leave the blend to synergize or come together for about 8 hours.
Once left to synergize, you’ll be ready to apply. For application, add 2 tablespoons of light coconut oil to 2 drops of the essential oil blend.
Massage the blend on areas where you’ve been bitten.
12. Soothing Blend For Mental And Emotional Wellness
When you’re feeling anxious and out of this world, this blend may help you relax, rise above negativity , and burst with energy.
- 4 drops of lemongrass
- 3 drops of ylang ylang
- 3 drops of lavender
Add to your diffuser or oil burner. Sit back and allow the lemony scent to soothe your disquieting thoughts.
You can also use this recipe as a massage blend. To do this, dilute the blend with 1 ounce of jojoba oil.
