As we have seen, Oregano’s benefits invigorate and heals our skin, improves wellness, positively affects emotions and spruces up home cleaning.
Here is how you can incorporate them into your daily life. Keep in mind the safety precautions of each oil!
1. Skin Healing Gel
This gel is perfect for warts and body acne.
- 15 ml aloe vera gel
- 5 drops oregano
- 2 drops Tea tree
Blend everything together well. Keep the blend in a glass jar and apply it on clean skin 2-3 times a day.
2. Natural Shampoo Solution For Head Lice
Due to the low risk of irritation oregano may pose to your skin, the following recipe contains no more than 1.1% oil dilution.
Nevertheless, using oregano in higher dilutions can be more effective for the treatment of head lice. If you want to try a higher dilution, you can perform a patch skin test first or you can slowly increase the dilution, but try to keep the shampoo foam away from the skin.
- 2 tablespoons of your regular shampoo
- 10 drops oregano
Blend the shampoo and oil together. Soak your scalp and hair with water and apply the shampoo to the hair and scalp. Leave it on for 5-10 minutes and then rinse thoroughly.
You can also dilute oregano oil in a bowl of hot water in order to disinfect hair brushes, combs, and other hair accessories or even bed sheets, clothes and pillow covers.
Due to the skin irritation it may cause if it is used in high dilutions, and as an extra precaution, it may not be suitable for use on children who are under two years of age.
3. Natural Anti-Cold Rub
- 20 ml Jojoba carrier oil
- 6 drops oregano
- 3 drops frankincense
Apply and gently rub on your chest, back of your neck, throat or bottom of your feet. Use the blend 2-4 times a day when you start experiencing symptoms of a cold or any other respiratory infection.
4. Muscle And Joint Relief Ointment
- 6 tsp calendula cream
- 5 drops oregano
- 4 drops eucalyptus
- 4 drops lavender
Blend together. Keep the ointment in a glass jar and apply on painful areas 3-4 times a day.
5. Kitchen Diffuser
For loss of appetite, diffusing oregano oil in the kitchen or living room can help. This oil may not have the best smell when diffused but you can mix it with some other essential oils such as citrus essential oils to create a more appealing scent effect.
For example, bergamot essential oil is extremely uplifting, so it can help in cases where the loss of appetite is due to depression. In the following recipe, we have also included lavender oil which has calming and balancing properties that can reduce stress, another cause of appetite loss.
- 5 drops oregano
- 5 drops bergamot
- 3 drops lavender
Create a blend by mixing the oils together. Add it to your diffuser and follow the instructions of your device for diffusing.
6. Uplifting DIY Hand Cream
Applying your own DIY cream can give you that little time you need to both pamper your skin as well as led a helping hand with your emotions.
- 4 tsp unscented hand cream
- 4 drops oregano
- 3 drops lavender
- 3 drops sweet orange
Blend together all ingredients. Keep the cream in a glass jar and apply to your hands whenever you need to get emotionally detached from an overly demanding working environment or distance yourself from the constant need to cover the needs of others whether they are family or friends.
Sweet orange has 1-2 years shelf life. Avoid using old oil because it can cause skin sensitization.
7. Natural Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizers often contain harsh chemical ingredients that can have various effects on the health of you and your children. While using plain soap and warm water may still be the most popular way to clean your hands and remove bacteria, it may not always be a convenient solution.
For places of work that you need to use a hand sanitizer, oregano makes a great natural alternative to those chemical laden products and can be cheaper as well. Here is how to prepare your own DIY hand sanitizer:
- 3 tbsp aloe vera gel
- 8 drops oregano
- 5 drops sweet orange
- 3 drops clove bud
Blend together. Keep in a glass jar that you can carry in your bag and use whenever it is needed. It is also great for traveling.
This blend is not recommended for use on children who are under 2 years old of age.
8. Natural Cleaner For Surfaces
Instead of inhaling fumes of chemical-laden cleaners that can have various health effects and even irritate your skin, why not try to make your own natural cleaner for various surfaces in your house or even office? Here is the recipe:
- 60 ml distilled water
- 8 drops oregano
- 5 drops lemon
- 5 drops tea tree
Mix all ingredients and add the mixture to a glass spray bottle. Your natural cleaner is ready for use.
